THE BOY’S A BIT SPECIAL
Iain Hume Tranmere Rovers
Born Edinburgh, 30/10/1983 (but I was brought up in Toronto so I'm a naturalised Canadian).
Nickname Eddie Munster or Mr. Ed.
Position Striker-cum-winger.
Club supported Hearts.
Clubs played for Tranmere have been my only professional club.
Internationals I made my debut for Canada against Libya, a game we won 4-2. I didn’t score, but it was still a special moment for me.
Strengths My pace. When I get the ball at my feet I can run at players and force them into making mistakes. I enjoy forcing errors from defenders.
Weaknesses My strength and size (or lack of it), although I have filled out a bit in the last couple of years.
Career highlights I would say coming on and making my debut against Swindon in 2000 and my FA Cup debut away to Everton when we won 3-0. Also scoring my first goal against Peterborough last season.
Lowlights After making my breakthrough three years ago I didn’t regularly get in the team until last season, when I put together a really good run of games. I suppose that was a bit frustrating.
Favourite players Zinedine Zidane and Ronaldo are two players I have always admired and who really good to watch.
Heroes My dad and Paul Gascoigne.
Toughest opponent Lee Naylor of Wolves, who I played against in the reserves.
Tunes I’m not really into pop, more hip hop and R’n’B, especially DMX.
Best friends in football Paul Robinson, Sean Thornton and Ryan Taylor.
What’s your transport? Walking and taxis but I have just bought a Vauxhall 1.6 from my team-mate Jason Price, even though I have only passed my theory test - hopefully the driving soon.
What do you spend your money on? I’m saving as much as I can — house, especially.
Best advice given My dad, definitely, and always in the same words: ‘You only get out of the game what you put into it’. I was six or seven at the time.
Biggest joker at Tranmere Jason Price is just off his head, completely nuts. I can’t pick on one particular incident, but he just walks down the corridor screaming at the top of his voice. Loose tile or what?
Chardonnay or Posh? Mmmmm, I would have to say Chardonnay.
Martin Tyler or Motty? John Motson.
Premiership or Match of The Day? Either or — it doesn’t really matter as you only get highlights.
Sky or BBC? As good as Sky is you get to see them it’s OK. If pushed, I would say The Premiership.
If you must like to be stuck in a lift with? I would have to say my girlfriend. In five years’ time I’ll be... I hope still playing in the Premiership and going against the top defenders. I hope that by then Tranmere, hopefully, will have made a career outside the top flight.
